Springfield, MO – Homeowners Beware!  Home remodeling scams are reaching an all-time high in the Ozarks.

Charlese Ruth from The Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield sees lots of complaints with home remodeling.

“I will say we get phone calls on a fairly regular basis.  Not just remodeling but new home construction as well.  And it’s amazing to me that people tend to do more research when they buy a toaster than when they trust somebody with a large portion of their savings.  A home is a huge investment for all of us,” says Ruth.

The Homeowners Association’s goal is to educate the public on using qualified companies to do any work on their homes.  The Association urges residents to make sure their contractors have workers compensation and general liability insurance.

Home repair and remodeling scams is in the top ten consumer complaints in Missouri.  These complaints involve asphalt driveway scams, remodeling work, and even roof repairs.

If you feel you are becoming a victim of a homebuilder scam, remember to check for the liability costs, plus how much you are being charged.

“Your liability issues are much higher,” says Ruth.

“I do get a lot of advertising in the mail so I wouldn’t be surprised if I haven’t gotten something,” says Springfield resident Maggie Mega-Linn.

For those looking to remodel their homes, The Homeowners Association suggests going to where you will find many local professional home remodelers with all of their contact information.  Another good tip is to ask for five to ten references when searching for a professional home remodeler.
